WHERE WILL JORDAN BRAND BE IN 5 YEARS?
It all started with an ad by Nike in 1985, it caused an immediate impact on the NBA & basketball world as a whole. The Air Jordan 1 was banned by the league because it didn't have white in the shoe. Every time Michael would wear them on the court, he was fined $5,000 (which would be around $11,000 today). Fast forward almost 30 years later, it's the most popular brand of all-time & made Nike more popular than it had ever been before. But today, there's other current stars in the league with their own signature brand like Kobe & LeBron. Some stars of the past have made themselves relevant again among the younger generation who didn't get to appreciate them on the court like Penny Hardaway, Charles Barkley & Allen Iverson. With more options & concerns of rising prices and lower quality of the shoes, some sneakerheads have stopped putting all of their money into Jordans. We'll talk about where we think Jordan Brand will be in the next 5 years & why it may get played out.
Tenz (@iHateTenz): In 5 years, Jordan Brand will reach all-time lows in sales. I say this because eventually, the sneakerheads that make him rich have and will get more tired of buying the same retros every year. Plus, every Jordan past the 14 aren't popular with most buyers, and we're at the Jordan 28 now! The other models like the Son Of Mars or Trunner and other "fusion" type shoes like this just look corny as hell and they sit on shelves. Even some of the stars under Jordan brand like Carmelo Anthony & Chris Paul have shoes that haven't become significantly popular enough to carry Jordan Brand for the foreseeable future. Retros are the top money maker for Jordan, and with these tacky colorways like this, and the quality of Jordans the past couple years, some people that aren't hypebeasts are gonna put their money into other shoes. I love Jordans personally, but there's mostly retros (though the 28's are growing on me by the day). But business wise, it's just common sense; the company can't have success in the future by depending on the past.
Randall (@FlyManRan): The Jordan Brand will never die as long as they continue to retro shoes. The younger generation will continue to buy the same retros that we are buying today because, like them, when most of us where their ages our parents didn't buy us $160 pair of shoes. So when they get older and Jordan continues to retro the SAME shoe over and over again(Nelly voice) the younger generation will buy the shoes that their parents wouldn't get them... I know I did! I'm still waiting for the Aqua 8's to retro again cause my mom wouldn't buy them for me when I was in high school. The only thing I see changing about the Jordan Brand in the next 5 years is the signature lines. I believe that they will add Blake Griffin and Russell Westbrook(great signing moves btw) signature designs to go along with the CP3 and Melo signature lines.
Maz (@Mazaradii): It'll never be played out thats for sure, especially not with all these kids parents just giving them money to blow. But it sure isn't gonna be the same, speaking for MYSELF. Most people still go for those Jordans on a Saturday morning, but I personally feel like Lebrons and Foams go faster then J's now. Even KD's, just depends on how limited Nike is making the sneaker. For Jordans to still be where they're at now is amazing because although the man is the greatest player we've seen, he hasn't been on that court in over 10 years. In today's game we see LeBron, Kobe, and KD sporting their own kicks. Even Barkleys but alot of people don't realize how popular Barkleys really are. In 5 years I see Jordan where its at now doing what it's doing , retroing the same shit but the younger kids buying em but I do see Lebron leading that pack as far as shoe sales go.
